Where I'm At Now

Sho, now that I've been signed and all that jazz I'm just kind of waiting for what happens next. Test shooting starts later this month or in November so I'm excited for that! I just got emailed this pdf about being a new face and it's really nervewracking. It's weird being told that for a job you should buy fashion magazines and be super hygenic. Also, I have to get a "model bag" filled with stuff to take everywhere I go in relation to my job, so once I get that all together I'll put some pictures up and explain what's in it.

Meeting Madness

So the end of August and the beginning of September were super hectic. Easton had sent out my pictures from the summer photoshoot and I was getting responses which was crazy! So the first agency that wanted to meet with me was Ford and I could not believe it. Ford is one of the biggest modeling agencies in the world and hundreds of photos get submitted to them everyday so, the fact that they had picked me out was so surreal. It was really hard not to keep things on the down low just because I was so excited. But i didn't want to tell that many people about it and get everyone all rallied up because nothing was for sure. So me and my mom drove out to Hollywood and met with a casting agent. Long story short unfortunately they said they weren't hiring new faces until 2012 ("new face" meaning someone with little to no previous prfessional modeling expirience). It was better than a flat out no! But still a little bit dissapointing. They said they would keep in touch with me and contact me when they start casting again, but we'll see how much truth there is to that ahaha. I met with another agency a week or two later and they were called Wunder Model Managemet, they ended up really wanting to work with me which was amazing to hear (I remember silent screaming and jumping around with my mom once we got in the elevator on the way back to the car)! The last agency I met with was Bleu Model Managment and long story short, they're the ageny that I'm signed with now. I got signed two weeks ago which was UH-mazing and I'm so excited to start working ahhhhh. Here's the link to the new faces page on their website: http://www.bleumodels.com/new_faces.php

But yeah, those few weeks were super hectic because usually I had to get ready for the meeting as soon as I got home from school since we had to drive out to Hollywood (they're all relatively in the same area). My first meeting with Ford was really nervewracking because I had no idea what to expect. But all in all I pretty much had to do the same thing at every meeting. Talk a little bit, fill out a form, take digitals, change into a bathing suit, and for the Wunder meeting I had to walk (which I feel like I could use a lot more practice with). But yeah now I officially have a "job" as a model which is crazy craziness.

Back to the Start

Here's basically how I got in to the whole modeling thing. So for a while I've been one of those people who has always been told "You should model!" "Do you model?" "Why don't you become a model?" And to be honest I used to hate it. I always felt like I was the awkward, tall lanky kid. I think that I still am, but the only difference is that now I've attempted to embrace it. Anyways, modeling never really appealed to me for a while, in fact I hadn't started to become really interested in it until the end of last year. But in 9th grade while I was at panda express with my mom, face stuffed with orange chicken, my mom was approached by his guy and his mom. He said that he needed an african american model for his senior project and he wated to know if my little sister was interested (she was outside wth my mom and I was in the car waiting fr them). Now my sister is very athletic, she loves soccer and makeup/hair and all that aren't really her things. So my mom asked if they wanted to see me and called me out of the car and from then in its history. OH YEAH and this guy was a senior at my highschool and Mr. Popular, pretty much everyone knew him and thought he was so hot so I was a little shocked. So here are some pictures from that photo shoot, which was the first one I had ever done:

So after that I just went about my life not thinking anything of it but around about 11th grade I started contemplating modeling. And long story short I just really got into it and I was eager to start, but I didn't know exactly how. Also, being a teenaged girl I was super insecure about alot of things and I knew that I had to come out of my shell if I wanted to make it anywhere. So I waited a little while and by the beginning of this past summer I felt like I had enough confidence to give it a go. So I emailed Easton (the guy whose senior project I posed for) after my mom had egged me on forever because I was a little nervous to do it, I'm not really sure why I guess I just thought that it might be awkward. Basically I just told him that I was interested in modeling and asked if he had any tips on how to get started. His response was way more ecstatic than I had expected. He pretty much said that he knew a lot of people (he interned as a photographer with Ford) that could help me get in that buisness and that he was willing to help me himself! So a couple of weekes later I went to his house again so that he could shoot some pictures for my portfolio which he would put together and send out. It costed about 200 dollars I think. I would post pics from that shoot but for some reason they wont upload -_-.

So by the end of summer Easton had moved to New York and we got in contact and he asked if I wanted to be managed by him. He wanted to represent me and a few other girls that were in the same boat as I am with the modeling thing. So he emailed a contract to my mom and we went over it, and signed it. It's a year long contract that says he gets 10% of whatever I make. And me and my mom know him on a personal level so it was great to be managed by someone who we know is trustworthy in a buisness that can be so sketchy. And yes I was, and still am, a little weirded out by the fact that someone I went to highschool with is now managing me! But overall it was really exciting and i couldn't have been more anxious to start.

HI!

Hey! Just thought I'd introduce myself for my first post :) I'm Kristen, I'm a 17 year old senior in highschool who lives in the LA County and, this is me. So basically this blog is more for myself than anything, just kind of a diary of everything having to do with my "modeling journey". But if you find entertainment in reading it then that's great! I've been contemplating making this for a while and I finally decided well, why not? I don't really need any other distractions so that's a downside but it's ok. And for the record this isn't meant to be some narcasistic (spelling?) blog where I brag about myself and gaze at all of my pictures because I think I'm so beautiful (PLEASE note the sarcasm), it's just a nice way to document everything that's going on and be able to look back at it. Plus, I know that if I keep a written journal about it I'll write in it once and never look at it again. So yeah, I hope you like what you see!
